Ambassador Debora Lepre, Permanent Representative of Italy to the International Organizations in Vienna has been elected by acclamation President of the 20th General Conference (27 November – 1 December 2023) of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO).
In her inaugural speech, Amb. Lepre underlined her objective of leading the sessions in a spirit of sharing, according to “the spirit of Vienna”: “Effective multilateralism must be promoted, to strengthen the role of UNIDO in the development and implementation of sustainable industrial development projects and accelerate towards achieving the objectives of the 2030 Agenda” – has declared Ambassador Lepre.
Furthermore, the Permanent Representative emphasized the centrality of gender equality and women’s empowerment to promote economic and social development, recalling that the UNIDO General Conference takes place during the days of mobilization against violence against women (“Orange the World”).
