Meeting of the UN Crime Commission. Ambassador Lepre and Prefect Grassi present Italian best practices in preventing and combating crime.

The ongoing UN Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice (CCPCJ), of which Italy is currently a Member, is a body of which 40 states are rotating members.

The CCPCJ meets annually to guide global policies on crime prevention and criminal justice. Since its first session, the Italian delegation then led by Giovanni Falcone presented its best practices in this area, at national level and in terms of international cooperation.

This year, the Permanent Representative, Ambassador Lepre, has presented during the general debate the draft resolution tabled by Italy, which aims to strengthen the prevention and fight against violence against minors, particularly in contexts of insecurity.

The Deputy Chief of Police, Prefect Grassi, has illustrated the Italian model in terms of financial investigations, during a side event organized together with the Executive Director of UNODC (UN Office on Drugs and Crime), Ghada Waly, the Secretary General of INTERPOL , Jurgen Stock, and FATF/FATF (Financial Action Task Force) Chairman Raja Kumar. The advancement of the Italian project for a global tool to support the tracing of illicit assets originating from criminal activity or “silver notice”, was discussed during the meeting between Prefect Grassi and the Secretary General of INTERPOL.

Italian delegation also protagonist during the side event on the links between terrorism and organized crime in Africa and on the Mechanism for the review and implementation of the Palermo Convention on Transnational Organized Crime.
