Strengthening international cooperation, developing innovative partnerships, and promoting increasingly effective tools to combat forms of crime that are becoming ever more global, interconnected, and technologically advanced. This was emphasized by Amb. Debora Lepre, Italy’s Permanent Representative to International Organizations in Vienna, during her address at the 35th session of the UN Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice (CCPCJ).

During the week-long session, Italy reaffirmed its strong support for the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), led by its new Executive Director Monica Juma, as well as for the UN80 process, aimed at strengthening the effectiveness, accountability, and credibility of the United Nations system.
On the sidelines of the Commission, the Italian delegation co-organized several side events dedicated, among other things, to combating financial crimes, gender-based violence facilitated by digital technologies, and the protection of cultural heritage, highlighting the contribution of the Guardia di Finanza, the participation of the Carabinieri, and the role of the United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute (UNICRI), based in Turin.
The Commission also adopted three resolutions on human trafficking for the purpose of exploitation in illicit activities, on transnational sexual exploitation of minors, and on combating fraud.
