The Permanent Mission of Italy to the International Organizations in Vienna and the International Peace Institute (IPI), an independent not-for-profit research and policy development think tank, hosted a Roundtable discussion based on the book “From fiction to reality – The Checkmate Pendulum” (http://the-checkmate-pendulum.com/), recently published by Antonio Maria Costa, former Executive Director of the United Nation Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).
A selected number of participants, including diplomats, UN officials and journalists, took part in the event. Antonio Maria Costa, Ambassador Filippo Formica, Walter Kemp (Director of IPI Vienna) and Alexandra Foederl-Schmid (Editor in chief of Der Standard), stimulated a very interesting debate, analyzing the links between finance, politics, transnational organized crime and corruption in the last decades.
