Italy and UNIDO supporting the Lebanese agro-food sector

On 25 September the Permanent Representative of Italy to the International Organizations in Vienna, Ambassador Maria Assunta Accili, and the Director General of UNIDO, LI Yong, signed a Memorandum of Understanding granting UNIDO a contribution of 1 million euros for the development of the agro-food sector in Lebanon.

This contribution funds the 4th Phase of a UNIDO Project through which Italy, since 2011, has supported technical cooperation initiatives aimed at improving production standards and facilitating market access for 68 small and medium enterprises and 20 cooperatives, with a positive impact on over 2,000 families.

On the occasion of the signing ceremony, Ambassador Accili also announced the approval of a contribution of 500,000 euros to another UNIDO project in Lebanon, titled “Supporting the development of industrial zones in Lebanon – Phase II”.
