The Friuli-Venezia Giulia Region and the City of Trieste participated in the third ‘Bridge for Cities – Belt and Road Initiative: Developing Green Economies for Cities’ Forum, which was jointly organized by UNIDO and the Finance Center for South-South Cooperation and held in Vienna from 9 to 11 October 2018.
The delegation – led by Region President Massimiliano Fedriga and the Mayor of Trieste, Roberto di Piazza – also included representatives of the Port Authority, of the Area Science Park and of the local branch of the World Trade Center of Trieste.
At the Forum President Fedriga and Mayor Di Piazza illustrated the initiatives promoted by their respective Authorities for a local sustainable development, in line with the 2030 Agenda of the United Nations. Furthermore, they highlighted the opportunities linked to the urban and port system of Trieste as a terminal and hub of the New Maritime Silk Road, also thanks to the synergies developed with both the scientific and private sector.
In the margins of the event, President Fedriga and Mayor Di Piazza had a meeting with the Director General of UNIDO, Li Yong, during which collaboration opportunities with the Organization were further explored.
