On 10 September 2019, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the Italian Society for Non-Destructive Testing Diagnostic Monitoring (AIPnD) have signed a practical arrangement to promote cooperation in the area of application of Non-Destructive Testing (NDT). The arrangement was concluded by the Deputy Director General of the IAEA, Dazhu Yang, and the President of AIPnD, Ezio Tuberosa, in the presence of the Permanent Representative of Italy to the International Organizations in Vienna, Ambassador Maria Assunta Accili.
This is the first arrangement signed by the IAEA in the field of Non-Destructive Testing, i. e. the set of procedures and techniques aimed at evaluating the integrity of materials without causing damage. This arrangement will allow to share best practices and knowledge developed by Italian experts and industry, and to promote the role of nuclear technologies in the application of non-destructive tests for civil purposes, such as the assessment of the integrity of infrastructures in case of natural disasters.
