Message of the Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Mr. Luigi Di Maio

In such a delicate phase, it is essential for Italy to be able to maintain solid relationships with other European countries and with the international community. It is fundamental above all to safeguard our businesses and our SMEs, which represent the country’s commercial backbone.

In the past few hours, we have been assured by many states that there will be no blockages or restrictions on us. We are working with targeted missions to other states and correct information campaigns, to remove a number of regions and municipalities that have nothing to do with the Italian destinations that are not recommended.
Not only. Yesterday I brought a specific plan to the Council of Ministers which aims to correctly inform all foreign states on the real progress of things in Italy. We have secured all our compatriots who were abroad, now we have to think about curbing the spread of inaccurate or even false news abroad that are circulating in these days. More fake news are spread and more damage, even at an economic level, our country suffers. We cannot allow it.
To continue this path of transparency towards other states, as anticipated in recent days, the first report has already been sent to our embassies in the world with all the precise data on the coronavirus: numbers, outbreaks, geographic areas involved. These reports will be updated on a daily basis.
We have a duty to act with the utmost seriousness by continuing to provide support 24 hours a day to our citizens and also protecting the economy of our country.

On Tuesday I have convened a meeting to take stock of Italian exports and Made in Italy. The Italian Foreign Trade Institute is ready to finance with 300 million euros our companies and we will discuss together about to best way to react to this moment. Another 350 million will be allocated to the Sace-Simest export fund.
Finally, tomorrow the Italy-France summit will take place in Naples with President Macron. This shows the confidence that other states have in Italy in continuing all planned activities.
