A series of high-profile events organized by UNIDO and dedicated to energy, industry, and climate issues took place in Vienna from April 8 to 10, 2026, including the International Vienna Energy and Climate Forum (IVECF), held in collaboration with the Austrian government, and the International Hydrogen Conference.<\/p>\n
IVECF 2026 brought together representatives from governments, international organizations, and the private sector, confirming the centrality of an integrated approach to energy, industry, and climate. The proceedings concluded with the adoption of the \u201cVienna Call to Action,\u201d reflecting the consensus on the need to strengthen international cooperation and operational tools within the energy\u2013industry\u2013climate\u2013security nexus. As part of the Forum, UNIDO signed a Joint Declaration with the Enel Foundation in the presence of Ambassador Debora Lepre. The agreement aims to promote collaboration in support of the energy transition and sustainable industrial development in developing and emerging countries, with a particular focus on Africa and Latin America, through training, capacity building, and knowledge exchange.<\/p>\n
The International Hydrogen Conference, held on 8 April, explored the role of hydrogen in industrial decarbonisation, with the participation of ministers and government representatives from various countries. In this context, Italy made a significant contribution through the presentation by Dr Roberto Cianella of the Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security, looking towards a stable regulatory framework, the development of demand and shared certification systems to support the growth of the global hydrogen market. Italy\u2019s strategic role was also highlighted as a Mediterranean hub for the import and distribution of hydrogen, as well as the contribution of the Southern Hydrogen Corridor project, developed in cooperation with Austria and Germany and open to North African countries.<\/p>\n
