The 42nd Session of the UNIDO Programme and Budget Committee (PBC), the Organization’s principal intergovernmental body responsible for reviewing its programme of work, budget, and financial situation, convened in Vienna on 22\u201323 June.<\/p>\n
The main political development of the session was the announcement that the United Kingdom has decided to rejoin UNIDO after more than a decade of absence. The decision was warmly welcomed by Member States and described by Director General Gerd M\u00fcller as a confirmation of the Organization’s ongoing growth and strengthening.<\/p>\n
In his address, the Director General also highlighted UNIDO’s achievements in 2025 and the priorities set out in the Riyadh Declaration and in the Vision 2050, with particular emphasis on sustainable industrial development, energy transition, food security, and circular economy.<\/p>\n
Italy reaffirmed its support for UNIDO’s work, highlighting the Mattei Plan for Africa and the ACT \u2013 Advancing Climate-Resilience and Transformation in African Coffee programme, one of the Organization’s flagship initiatives implemented in partnership with Italy.<\/p>\n
The PBC also adopted a conclusion on food security, representing the first concrete follow-up to the resolution on the subject adopted by the General Conference in Riyadh in November 2025.<\/p>\n
The session confirmed the positive momentum currently enjoyed by UNIDO, marked by the expansion of its activities, stronger international partnerships, and renewed support from its Member States.<\/p>\n
