The 63rd session of the Preparatory Commission of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO) concluded yesterday in Vienna. During the session the Treaty’s States Signatories re-elected Australian Robert Floyd, who has served as Executive Secretary since 2021, for a second four-year term at the helm of the organization’s Provisional Technical Secretariat (PTS) by acclamation.
Italy, which attaches great importance to the entry into force of the CTBT as an essential instrument for non-proliferation and security, actively supported Dr. Floyd for his work and the strategic vision he is pursuing. As underlined by Ambassador Lepre in her statement at the plenary meeting, the universalization of the CTBT, the completion and maintenance of the International Monitoring System (IMS) and the focus on developing countries through technical assistance and training activities are priorities strongly shared by our country, which will continue to provide full cooperation towards achieving these goals.
