2025 marks the 70th anniversary of Italy’s membership in the United Nations, as well as the 80th anniversary of the United Nations themselves.

On 14 December 1955 Italy became a UN Member State by unanimous vote of the Security Council and of the General Assembly.

That moment was the beginning of a long history of collaboration, support and contribution to the activities of the United Nations, which is the logical consequence of the multilateral approach characterizing the Italian foreign policy.

Seventy years later, Italy continues to participate in UN activities with growing commitment, contributing to the achievement of the UN Charter’s objectives, from international peace and security keeping, to the promotion and defence of human rights, to sustainable development.
